When my parents first bought my condo (with my name also on the deed), they planned on me filing for homestead. Well, when I called in, they said, "Your condo is already filed for homestead."

I figured, "great.. now I don't have to drive and spend an hour trying to get into one of the one parking spaces available to the public."

Well.. the first year, our property taxes had the homestead filed. (Woohoo! saved $700)
Now, this year, homestead is un-filed and we pay $700 more than last year.

When I called in, they told me that I should've filed for homestead (DUH OMG!) and that the previous owners' homestead was what was applied to my condo the first time... How the hell was I supposed to know that it carries over like that?!

In case you're wondering, homestead is a filing that saves a certain part of property taxes as exempt for people living full time in the property they bought.

Grr.. Now they're telling me there's no way for me to get the $700 back even though they told me I needed not to file. Stupid ACR's.
