I know this may sound dumb, but on a stock Intel hsf for a Core 2 processor, it has 4 posts that go into the mobo.
On the top of each post there is an arrow indicating a direction. Does the arrow show the direction to lock it into place, or does the arrow point to the direction to release the hsf?
Thanks

From what I remember now, the direction is where you turn to unlock it once the pins are already in and set to the motherboard. At least that is what I remember from using those pins a while back.

Generally the hardest part is getting the pins in the first time, solid and tight. You do have to orient them so they "freely" do push through all the way. I found that at times one or two were kinda stuck and I had to jiggle them before I could actually place the HS/Fan on the CPU and push them down freely.

Make sure you do not do this on a flat surface like a table but rather while you are holding the board in your hand. This allows for the pins to actually go through the board and not get pushed back from the hard surface you might have placed the board on. This is if you are placing the HS/Fan on the board not in the case - not sure if folks do it while the board is alraedy installed or with the board outside. Some say you need too much pressure and if the board is already installed you run the risk of cracking your board from pushing down too much.

There is a Youtube video demonstrating the installation of LGA775 CPU and it shows that turning in the direction of the arrow releases it (Time:. 5:02)

Thanks. I can't seem to remember it because it is counter-intuitive. You would think that turning in the direction of the arrow would lock it, not unlock it.
