Its quite simple - can an ATA100 drive work on an ATA33-only supported motherboard?

I just bought an IBM 60gxp, and guess what - it doesn't work. It was sent in a flimsy FedEx, paper-envelope in an anti-static bag. It definitely is not recognized on my Asus P3B-F, and since this is my first ATA100 HD, I was just making sure I'm not a complete idiot.

I have all three cable types (all of which I've tried)...ATA33, ATA66, and ATA100 cables.

Thanks!

Yep. It will run at the ATA33 spec, but it should run fine. Sounds like you got at bad drive.

which i just found out...anyone have any recommendations on making sure everything works out in me getting this back to the person?

i sent a money order to him...can i cancel it?

i've pm'ed him telling him its dead, and have asked for him to pay shipping for me to return it to him (approx $8)...and i'm going to ship in a nice, very safe hard drive box to make sure that it wasn't my fault at all.

...first time i've ever been screwed on this forum, and it couldn't have happened at a worse time...
