Sorry guys but this one is urgent and it would be fantastic if you could help me out.

My girlfriend forgot to close the balcony door, a video project that got to be done by this Wednesday (deadline) was rendering, we left the house for some shopping, a thunderstorm came, wind blew the rain inside so my computer got soaked and screwed. Arrgh!

I keep my girlfriend but I need a new computer to finish my work (at least I had a backup) and I got to get the system tomorrow. I bought my last computer 1.5 years ago so I do not know what would be best right now but here are some details:

What do I want this system for?
I will render some video projects via Premiere CS4, some of them in HD. This is pretty much all I want to do with this machine besides some general stuff like Photoshop, surfing and maybe sometimes gaming but that doesn't really matter. I know I won't get a killer HD rendering monster for 1300$ but it would be good to get one that's just as good as possible and I could upgrade well during the year.

Things I need for 1300$
- The system should be a raid system with 2x500gig hard drives.
- I need everything besides the OS, keyboard, mouse.
- If possible I would love to get a 22" monitor that is able to display HD along with a HD capable gfx card.

I know some of you here are up to date and can suggest a great system. It would be great if someone could help me out. I will try to do as much research as I can today as well.

Find a Core i7 machine loaded with as much memory as you can afford.
If you can't find a Core i7 at your price point, drop down to a fast Core 2 Quad machine...

Well i heard the dells come pretty cheap in the America, That is even cheaper if you assemble it. (Believe me its the other way around in India).

Try to find a core i7 based rig as i heard its great for video rendering and stuff...

But if you have time to build it post so. I got a great configuration in my mind for that price point.

A little piece of advice, Never allow any second person into the bread winner's office/working room. Me or my mom never go into my fathers office room without his permission. My grandmother or my mother never used to go into my grandfather's office without his permission.Thats how things work man, If your serious about your work.

Well I guess I will forget about the HD capable screen and gfx card and just try to build a stronger i7 system. Eyecandy is not as important and performance.

Yes indeed. Go prebuilt. Do you have any alternatives to Best Buy though? Do you live anywhere near a Fry's or even some other computer store, perhaps a local shop? Even if you do have to go to Best Buy for the base machine, you may need to get extra parts from another store since BB's selection of computer parts is pretty bad.

Also, get a new girlfriend :p

Whoa, Best Buy actually being the best buy? :Q

I was more referring to extra parts he may need like hard drives and RAM, but those shouldn't be terribly more expensive at BB vs. Fry's (if they are at all). Fry's has a better selection, generally, but BB should still have what he needs.
