Stupid fop38 question

Ok, I just got one. what do I do with the fan shield that comes in the box. Should I install it? Is it needed. what the heck does it do? protect my fingers?

The FOP38 will really mangle your fingers.

man that thing (fan) is spinning @ 7000 rpm , you might wanna consider putting it on.
