I paid extra to have something overnighted to me by 11am today. I waited by the door (literally about 5 feet away) all morning. At noon, I gave up and went to leave for work. As I'm walking out, I notice a little FedEx "we tried to deliver but you weren't home" note.

GAH!

I need to learn to leave a note on my door:

"Dear delivery driver: I am at home awaiting your delivery. Please ring the door bell and wait for me to answer".

I've done that to no avail. Calling the local center, informing them of the driver's incompetence, and demanding a refund works most of the time, though.

I had that happen to me too. I called and complained, they tracked down the driver and had it waiting for me at the local distribution center.

FedEx - delivering packages within roughly ten miles of their intended recipients since 1971.

At least they are intact. United Package Smashers delivers to the right address, but some assembly may be required.

Note that I rarely have had an issue with either one, but I did get a box with a head-sized hole in it delivered by UPS once o_O

I had a weird one yesterday. The delivery confirmation info said that they had made a delivery attempt, and would retry the next day.
I too was sitting perhaps 10-15 feet from the door. The odd parts:
1) The package in question didn't require a signature.
2) I have a mailbox, and the package fits in the mailbox.
3) I never heard so much as a tap at the door.
4) The package was in the mailbox.

I need to learn to leave a note on my door:

"Dear delivery driver: I am at home awaiting your delivery. Please ring the door bell and wait for me to answer".
Or, "Yes I know your job isn't exactly the greatest thing in the world. But it's your job, so do it."

Then he will pee on your lawn.

Usually. A package of mine experienced a delivery attempt almost 400 miles away in a different state. I first suspected that something was amiss when the package was "out for delivery" quite a long ways from the local distribution center.

I've heard that if you have a camera (or a fake one) they will at least make an attempt to deliver the package.

FedEx has really gone down hill from what it used to be. They now contract out a lot of their delivery service to 3rd parties. The truck may say fedex but with a little digging you find out they are not part of the main company, but regional contractors who often deliver for other companies too.
