Stupid F@H question...

OK, when setting up clients for F@H, what are the machine #'s used for, and can they be used on more than 1 physical machine? I just recently started folding, and have set up 6 of my non-Seti boxes to fold. As I switch more over, how do I handle more than 10 PC's, since it looks like the machine #'s only handle 1-10?

yes machine id's are machine specific. so if you have 3 machines all can be called machine 1.

Hurricane Andrew, welcome to the F@H TeAm 🙂

LOL, that is the exact same question I had when I started Folding 😛

The only reason for MachineID numbers is for multi-CPU computers, up to eight (8). So if you have an eight CPU computer you could run eight instances.

Each computer has its own ID so you could have thousands of computers with MachineID #1.

So don't copy the same folder and registry key with ID to multiple computers.

Thanks for the welcome! Glad to know I can ignore that ID, since I don't have any multi-core PC's. Yet. 😉

What I do have is 6 PC's, most crunching deadlineless WU's. Fortunately, one of them is a new IBM xServer that's doing the bulk of the work for now, even with CPU usage cranked back to 65%. Total of 7 WU's since I started, and 3 of them courtesy of the Xeon. Will be getting another one next weekend, but I may let it crunch Seti, just for kicks. We do have a mini race coming up 😀

Wow. I feel like Agent Smith. I need more. More PC's to crunch various projects. More power for those projects. Can you ever have enough processing power at your disposal? I think not.
