We went to a place called Tan Tan (it is a 24 hour asian restaurant <it has code violations for uncleanliness before> ). It was annoying. Not only did they add tip to the meal in our check already (which in this case the service was terrible and they were kind of rude, I wouldn't have minded otherwise), they would not split the check and half of the people there didn't have cash on them.

I am going to PermaBan that restaurant.

If they won't accept what you have to offer, get up to leave. They'll change their tune.

BTW, going out with friends and they only carry credit card ? What's up with that.. what'd they expect to do ... have 5 bills for 10 people ? I would say no too. If it were just 2 people, or the bill was expected to be paid by 1 person, no cash would be fine.

;) Good point, but I have gone to Chinese restaurants where the service was impeccable and I tipped accordingly. To have really lousy service and then add a tip makes me a little miffed. My friends spring rolls came out literally 50 minutes after he ordered it. We had to ask for them twice before they brought them out. Spring Rolls are the easiest thing to make too. The waitress was rude taking the order. They didn't even bring out beverages till about the same time the food was ready.

The only good waiters were the illegal immigrants they had cleaning the tables and serving the drinks, and if I knew the tip was going to them (which I am pretty sure it didn't) I would not have minded so much.

Also, quoted for truth. Customarily, when going out you should carry at least $20 on you. This being a last minute decision to go out to eat, I didn't have much cash on me (not enough at least). That being said, I still had fun with my friends. I just am ranting about a lousy restaurant. The only reason the place remains a good business is because it is open 24 hours a day and has a wide selection of asian food for the late night bar hoppers.

i like tan tan :p

You know it has gotten Marvin Zindlered and Code Violations so many times... Plus the service is lousy. The food is alright and it is one of the only places open extremely late, but I rarely eat out late anyways (not healthy). I would rather go to Bodards across the street or Singh Singh's than Tan Tan's. Bodards is cheaper (except they deal in cash only) and cleaner, and the food is just as good. The service is lousy there, too, but at least they aren't rude (and they don't add tip for no apparent reason).

tantan now is 100x better than it was 4-6 years ago when it was really dirty, and then a MILLION times better than it was before the shooting. Tip is usually added for me at tan tan when we have more than 6 I think. That's pretty standard at a lot of restaraunts. Bodard has taken credit cards for me when the bill is large enough. If you want a cleaner place try Phat Ky off of 59S and wilcrest, almost right across the freeway from frys.

Bullet proof glass will do that and to be honest having your hand caked with grease doesn't really bolster the idea that Tan Tan is any cleaner than before. I know about the tip thing, but the service was lousy (if the waitress had done anything to warrant a good tip, I would not have minded, but we even needed to ask a different waiter for the bill because the waitress didn't do anything and we were sitting at an empty table waiting for our bill <I mean for goodness sake, the workers were already bussing our table and we couldn't get the check> ).

I love Phat Ky. It is only like a 4-5 minute drive from where I live, and it is clean and the food and service are so much better.

Meh, you would be surprised with how many restaurants out there are sited for that stuff. Joe's Crabshack is literally one of the dirtiest in the list of top food chain restaurants, but you don't see people stop eating there.

There are plenty of restaurants that appear to be clean that really aren't.

Also, you fail to understand that I am asian, so dirty restaurants are natural for me. ;) :p

That being said, Tan Tan was a bit unclean even for me.

**EDIT**
BTW, it is a RANT. I can be REDUNDANT if I want. :p

This one time I ate at a place in Rowland Heights, CA, I had a large party and they forgot to add the tip automatically. Of course, we didn't tip since they were rude and never refilled drinks or tea.

We leave and next thing we know, the waiter comes out yelling "15% PERRRRRCENNT! 15% PERRRRRCENNT!" and running after us. We just kept walking. He grabbed one of my friends near his wallet in back pocket, and my friend turned around and punched him in the face.
