:| They wouldn't split the check. I ended up paying for the meal (not too big of a deal, we were all good friends and most of them didn't have cash at the time).

We went to a place called Tan Tan (it is a 24 hour asian restaurant <it has code violations for uncleanliness before> ). It was annoying. Not only did they add tip to the meal in our check already (which in this case the service was terrible and they were kind of rude, I wouldn't have minded otherwise), they would not split the check and half of the people there didn't have cash on them.

I am going to PermaBan that restaurant.

it's 8:18 in the morning... you're just NOW complaining about this?

edit: i just realized that you stated it was a 24-hr asian restaurant... why don't they have more of those? oh, i remember... because they'd probably suck.

Most resturants do automatic gratuity for parties above 6 people or so.

Most places don't split the check, either, but you can still pay with several credit cards - we always just make a list of name -- amount on the back of the bill, give it back to the waiter with a stack of cards.

:p Haha. Naahhh.

But, basically most 24 hour Chinese restaurants I have been to are dives.
There is a late night restaurant called Singh Singh around here which is decent and the service there is better, and the place is somewhat cleaner, too.

They refused to charge the bill on multiple cards, even if we wrote down dollar amounts for each card.

Sorry

Meh, most places will cover CC. And usually I make it a point to carry cash if I go out, it is just on this occassion it was kind of a last minute decision to go eat.

I would have permabanned it based on that alone.

You know it has gotten Marvin Zindlered and Code Violations so many times... Plus the service is lousy. The food is alright and it is one of the only places open extremely late, but I rarely eat out late anyways (not healthy). I would rather go to Bodards across the street or Singh Singh's than Tan Tan's. Bodards is cheaper (except they deal in cash only) and cleaner, and the food is just as good. The service is lousy there, too, but at least they aren't rude (and they don't add tip for no apparent reason).

;) Meh, apparently, you don't eat at a lot of authentic asian restaurants. They are dirty. But yeah, Tan Tan is a little too dirty even for me. I put my hand down on the table and was shocked to have a cake of grease on my fingers. <shudders>

Sorry

why? who the hell carries cash anymore?

it is stupid to have no cash on you and there is no other way see it really. what happens if you are, oh lets say, at a restaurant and they wont split the bill and you cant pay for yours so you are an asshole and make someone else pay for you? or the credit card machine at a gas station isnt working, a friend needs to borrow 10 dollars for a taxi to get home, your card isnt accepted in a machine because it cant read it (happened to me once), you ate the food at a restaurant already and didnt realize they dont accept credit cards or your type of card, you are overseas and dont want to get a 5.00 charge for everytime you buy a pack of gum that costs 1.19, and i could keep going for as long as you needed me to but this should be sufficient.

the point is you are a moron if you dont carry at least 10-20 dollars. i have 4 credit cards and use them almost exclusively but i dont leave the house unless i have 20 dollars because too many things could go wrong where you would be screwed if you didnt have it.

Most normal people carry cash. It's convenient for those once in a while 'cash only' situations, and for when you don't want to waste time putting in a PIN. Plus, I (and most people, I think) feel like an idiot putting a charge of less than $5 on a card.

Oh, plus, some retarded places still charge extra to use a card.

Meh, as I said before I usually carry cash when I go out, it is just that this was a last minute decision to go out. And all of us decided on Tan Tan because we knew they tooko CC, it is just they wouldn't use more than one CC.

next time, tell them before you order that you're going to split the check...if they say no, go somewhere else....im pretty sure waiters hate having to split checks onto multiple cards

i never carry cash.... it always eats a hole in my pocket. besides, my wallet doesn't have a place to hold cash (it's really thin... just holds cards and id). i don't really go to any cash-only establishments anyways. if i were to be going to one, however, like certain bars, i make sure that i hit the atm before i go.

You expected even halfway decent customer service from an Asian restaurant ? No shot.

BTW, going out with friends and they only carry credit card ? What's up with that.. what'd they expect to do ... have 5 bills for 10 people ? I would say no too. There's nothing wrong with not carrying a lot of cash all the time, but if you're going out to eat and expect to share the cost with a bunch of people...

You hit the ATM. There's sometimes the 1 couple who doesn't have cash so they just pay the whole bill on their CC and everyone else just gives them the cash. I have honestly never seen any restaurant split the bill more than once. And I've gone with college crowds plenty of times.

tantan now is 100x better than it was 4-6 years ago when it was really dirty, and then a MILLION times better than it was before the shooting. Tip is usually added for me at tan tan when we have more than 6 I think. That's pretty standard at a lot of restaraunts. Bodard has taken credit cards for me when the bill is large enough. If you want a cleaner place try Phat Ky off of 59S and wilcrest, almost right across the freeway from frys.

Dude, use some brain power here.....I would have told them that's their only option for payment take it or leave it. If they refuse then they declined to accept your PROPER form of payment.

They just didn't want to run that many cards and get hit with the processing fee for each card, at least I bet you that's the reason.

seriously dude, show some spine, ask for a manager and tell them you have no intention of paying for everyone on one card as it isn't feasible for you and they can split the bill accordingly.

that is, unless they asked you up front if it's on seperate bills and you said no, not likely that it happened that way, but it just seems fishy that they wouldn't bend on that request unless they had a really good reason. If they had no good reason then you had a right to refuse to pay their way.

Maybe....ask for separate checks next time?

They probably didn't want to split it because the 6 or over tip rule wouldn't apply :)
