Stupid Dell Warranty Policy that you should know about...

Abhi

I bought a Dell Laptop in November 2003 wilth 2 years limited warranty...

I made it explicitely clear to Dell Sales that the system will be used in India. Infact the billing address was in India. I was told that the warranty is fully valid in India.

The systems warranty was transferred to India in January 2004

However, recently i found out this is NOT the case. The only thing Dell India can do for me is give me telephonic support. Labour and Parts have to be paid for even though my warranty extends to Nov 2005.

I find this unfair.

I also found out that had i bought 3 years of warranty, parts would have been covered by Dell India.

I am now buying another year of warranty from Dell India for close to US $200.

btw: Anyone have the direct email address of a senior Dell employee? Mailing customer support is a waste of time... i tried 4 times...

In Short: Dont buy from Dell. And if you are buying a laptop from Dell, get 3 years of warranty if you want it fully valid internationally.
:disgust:

you paid for something and then did not get it? They told you you could have it, took your money... then said no? That you would have needed to spend more?

And you are gonna buy another item from the same company?

Raise a stink until they either offer you

A) Your warranty as promised
B) A significant credit to cover both the original warranty and the extended warranty you now have to purchase

and/or

C) They take there piece of sh!t laptop and give you a full refund and waive any restocking fee, as well as shipping costs.

You are the customer, and you are right. Seriously. You were told one thing when you purchased the laptop, which turned out to be an error on THEIR part. It is their job to remedy the situation, not yours. Do not settle for anything, make them honor their warranty promise or take their laptop back - period. Remember, it's your job to play hardball now and not get screwed.

PS - Did you pay for it using a Credit Card? If so, dispute the charge until Dell honors your requests, whatever they may be. You did not receive the product as advertised.

So call them up and tell them you live in the US but you're travelling right now and ask if they can ship you the parts to India. Might work.

What am i supposed to do ... sell the laptop ?

I wrote to Dell USA and all they said was, this is their policy and Dell Sales forgot to mention the fact. They werent supposed to do that because they "thought" the system will be kept in USA.

SunnyD,

I did pay using a credit card, but that was Oct 2003. Think i can dispute it now? I never thought of that....

FrankyJunior,

the warranty is already "transferred" to India (although uselessly) 🙁 Its a good idea though... I ll try it if nothing works..

I know this won't help for this issue. In the future you should always get a company's promises IN WRITING. A signed letter would be best but an email would also suffice.

Best of luck and sorry to hear about your situation 🙁

I feel like being an ass right now:

Stop complaining. You stop taking our damn jobs and maybe we'll see about you getting your warranty. :|

lol.

I'm sorry that I'm laughing OP, but I am. I know I'm wrong. I'm really wrong for laughing, but I thought the same thing and then I read it.

BTW, while they shouldn't have said that, I agree that you should have gotten a written notice first. Plus, you should know (being from India and all) that tech support people don't know sh1t. I called Nextel once to ask a question, and after getting the answer I called back to reaffirm it. Different answer. So I said thank you and called back. Back to the first answer. Their own support people didn't know if paying $10 for unlimited nationwide direct connect (walkie-talkie service) would give me unlimited local direct connect as well (the plan I was asking about included 100 direct connect minutes).

Needless to say, I didn't get a Nextel phone.
