Yeah, I worked at a grocery store for 5 and 1/2 years. If you ever want to hate people, work retail. I worked at the most friendly, fully staffed all the time store, customer service was our thing. Stupid people don't understand that they are buying groveries from kids who are 14 years and up that start at about $5.40/hr. I'm sorry we dont have the store 100% memorized, your the ones that walks up and down every isle a once a week, I'm just here to check you throgh! Sure, every store is different, but still pretty basic. Stuff is where you would expect it to be, I'm sorry that you have no logic skills.
The thing that sucks about working at a grocery store is that even idiots have to eat, so they have to come to the store.
They used to drive me crazy, always blocking the isles with thier carts, expired coupons, taking 10 min to write a check, ect. And for whatever reason every dam old person thinks that a little snow or rain means that they are going to not be able to leave their house for a week, so they all rush in, nevermind the basement they have full of canned goods, they still need more!
We never had a big problem with stuff being left around, not that the customers didnt do it any less, but simply the fact that with so may employees running around it was picked up pretty quick. It was still very anoying.
All in all my experience there was very good. It kept me in a little bit of cash, I learned how to deal with people (having been a shy kid this was great for me), and it gives you great motivation to get a higher education. I could easily go to just about any grocery store and make enough money to live off(not that I ever will need to, hopefully). I work tech support now (internal thank goodness), but i dont think i could pull it off if it where not for my time at the grocery...
