So for those who dont know I work in an inner city trauma hospital in the ER as a student nurse(soon to be nurse in 5 months). Anyways sometimes truth is stranger than fiction and well this story happened last night around midnight on my shift.
A Psych patient waiting for medical clearance manages to steal an ambulance....the smart SOB waited until security was called to make his break (ironically I had called security to our module to restrain a violently drunk patient) and he knew that when security was called only 2 nurses would be at the ambulance triage door and he could get out easy...
He went to one ambulance and jumped in and found that the driver was cleaning up the back and jumped out. By this point our security and a couple city PD officers were outside. He sees them converging on him, he see another ambulance and jumps in where the dumbarse EMS tech had left the keys in the ignition and the engine running!!!
Our masterful criminal speeds away into the night. Bout a half-hour later the same criminal calls 911 and reports that they can come and pick up their ambulance now because he is finished with it. He only needed it to drive home with. Police and EMS converge on the mans home, arrest him, drive him back to my hospital, this time in handcuffs to wait for psych to clear his ass for jail time.

Just thought I'd share. We all got a kick out of it last night.
