Okay I built a computer for someone, and when you plug it in, turn it on, it works great. No problems at all. But, if you shut it off, then try and turn it back on, it won't POST. Now if you shut it off, and kill power to it (unplug it or flip the switch on the back of the PSU) then give it power again and turn it on, it works. I've gone round and round with this thing and I have no idea what is causing it.

I have tried disconnecting the hard drive and CD burner, no help. Tried reseating the memory and video card, still the same problem. Tried reseating the power supply wires, still nothing. Voltages look good on the PSU.

All the parts are brand new.

I'm thinking there may be something wrong with the mobo somehow, but I want a second/third/whatever opinion b4 I go through the RMA process. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Try....
Reset CMOS ...take the battery out and put it back..

Remove ram .. Replace 1 stick at a time.
Remove CPU ""
Double check connections..& bios settings.

Some suggestions....

If you have a spare PSU, one from your rig, to test this rig with, I would do so. Rosewills aren't on the recommended list. It looks good once it is on, but if you are having trouble turning it on and off, that sounds like the problem there.

unfortunately my "rig" is a laptop, and the only spare PSU I have is the original out of the case - a 350W Rosewill PSU. Not much good there. Maybe my roommate will let me hook his PSU up.

I tried loading bios defaults, and after I did that, it only turns on once every 2 or 3 times you plug it in. I'm thinking that maybe it is a sign that the BIOS chip is bad?

Also I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place - Newegg says that the warranty is through Asus only, but Asus says to go through the retailer- and I'm stuck in the middle! I sent an email to newegg to see what can be done, I figure I can probably get farther with them than with Asus.

Try clearing the CMOS?

Might as well try that 350W with just the mobo, memory and cpu hooked up and see if it posts fine. If it posts, then go ahead with the HD.

clearing CMOS did nothing, so I tried the other PSU. It acts exactly the same - turn it on, works fine. Shut it off, then back on and it won't POST. Tried running with only vid card, CPU, and mem connected, no difference. I got an RMA now for the mobo, and am sending it in soon.
