Stupid car stereo question...

Okay...I had this old Honda. It had a Clarion 6 changer in the trunk. I bought a nice clarion CD head unit for it. The honda eventually blew up. I took the deck and changer out of it. Problem: I left the CDs in the changer. I now have another car with an in-dash 6 (not as nice as the clarion, but with install costs there's no point in doing such a marginal upgrade just to have the dang thing in the trunk). So, I want my CDs back. Does anyone know how to open up those changers? I can't seem to find either any documentation on it, or any sort of physical "release" switch. I'm about to take a damn hammer to the thing. Which brings me to my next point: Do you think anyone would want this? I'd give it away, with the caveat that it actually gets installed quickly and I get my CDs back.

if there is no release on the machine itself, you need to apply power to it and then try and eject them. if you want, I'll buy it off you and ship the cds back, been looking for a cd changer

yup, install it without actually 'installing it' by plugging in power etc, and eject the cd's via switch. If not you should be able to manually open the door and then pry the case out though i think this course of action would ruin the changer.

Head unit: Clarion DRX 6475
Changer: Clarion 6201 CD

Uses some 13 pin DIN connection.

I'd sell if for the cost of shipping and $5 worth of taco bell.

Just open it up. I did that once to get cds out of a changer that got some water damage. Luckily my PSP was still valid (covered all damage, period) and it was fixed. I just had to pop a lever or something and the magazine came right out.

How can I power it up though, short of running into someone else with a 13 pin DIN that wants to let me jack it into their car?

you may be able to get a DIN breakout cable from a car audio shop.

Or heck....better idea. Just take it to a car audio shop and say "get my CDs out" If they charge you more than 10 bucks laugh at them.

Wow.

Why didn't I think of this?

God I'm a fisking moron.

Hook it up to a 9v battery. I left a CD in a headunit I uninstalled. Hooked up the power and ground wires to a 9v battery, and voila, enough power to eject. CD Changer might require more power, but it's worth a shot.
