Stupid ? about laptop and docking stations usb ports

country2

Senior member
Ok this might be a stupid question but I've got a old IBM THINKPAD A31 which has usb1.1 ports. If I get the docking station which has usb2 ports will the ports on the docking station really be usb2 ports will will they be usb1.1?I'm guessing the port replicator port is totally serperate from the laptop usb circuit and they will tranfer data as a usb2... Thanks

OOps sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum..If so don't flame me too hard 🙂

I guess that would depend on whether or not the docking station has its own USB controller. Some do. You can always add USB 2 ports to an older laptop via a PCMCIA card.

Thanks for the info.I'm going to "try"and set it up as a carpc since I don't use it anymore and figure a docking station would allow me to remove it easier if needed but worried about the slow usb ports.
