Okay - stupid thing to ask, but here goes - WHY WON'T THIS STUPID CPU BE STABLE AT 2.3GHZ!?! I gave it 1.7V of juicey juice (60C at that volt under load :Q ) and I have pc3200 under the h00d.

Currently:
A7N8X Deluxe rev 1.04
Crucial PC3200 512MB in SCDDR 2.5-2-2-6 (it doesn't do cas 2)
Some weird branded (Turbolink) PSU that came with the cheiftec case 420w [MAYBE IT'S THIS!!]
Athlon XP Tbred B - DLT3C JIUHB 0310WPMW, came out of batch 107 (IT'S THE FRICKEN WONDER CHIP)
Radeon 9500 pro - agp is locked at 66MHz last time I checked (about 3 reboots ago (3 minutes ago))
SLK-800(u) w/Panaflo L1A.

anyone have any suggestions other than buy an antec truepower 430? Oh, at 60C, windows xp BSOD.

I concur.
Get a real heatsink and it should stable out. however it could also be that your voltage may be too low....1.4ghz to 2.3ghz is a pretty big jump for only what .1v increase.

It's 0.2 as he has a 1.5v CPU. He needs to sort those temps out b4 upping the volts any more than 1.7v IMHO.

Ummm, the SLK-800U is one helluva heatsink, and is probably the second best heatsink (for air cooling) on the market today.

your temps should not be that high, especially with a DLT3C, 60C is just about as high as I'd be comfortable. You say you have the "wonder chip" but that doesn't mean you will get much higher than 2.3GHz. 1.7 volts on a DLT3C is plenty of juice, I wouldn't go higher than 1.75. I suggest you:

1) reseat your heatsink, make sure you don't apply too much as3 (hopefully you are using it)

2) get rid of your power supply and get a real one - I suggest a Sparkle 300 watt (aka Fortron) power supply from newegg or if you have the money go for an antec truepower. I have the 350w sparkle and I'm running 2.3GHz on the older DUT3C 1700+. Just watch out on the 350w sparkle because the power supply fan is very loud, the 300w model is quieter.

3) set your cpu fsb/memory divider to something that doesn't stress your memory - something like DDR333 at relaxed timings just to rule out any memory barrier

Now if you can't get higher/stable at 2.3GHz, you have hit the wall for your cpu

oh, and by the way, the SLK800(u) is one of the best heatsinks currently available - any overclocker knows this

just caught that he had one int hat case reseat the thing and reapply his thermal grease...personally id ditch the panaflo L1a and go with somehting with more balls.

Okay thanks for all the replies, but I don't think so.

1) SLK-800(u) - I chose this heatsink only because it's one of the best for the Athlon platform
2) It's paired with a panaflo L1A (quiet, efficient, doesn't put out enough air though). I might try with a different fan...
3) I'm taking the DIE/CORE temps not the socket temps
4) I have DDR400 RAM running at SPD and it still will not go higher than 2.3GHz.
5) Yeah I'm thinking it's the power supply. Just wanted to get another persons opinion on this one...

(I meant for this all to be non-offensive)

Yes the temps are high, yes the CPU is probably at it's limits, yes my power supply sucks. Thank you! :) :) :)

Well, I'm looking back at the rails and they seem to be way off.

+3.3 = 3.05-3.12
+5 = 4.6-4.9
+12 = 12.6-12.7

This isn't a matter of life or death. Just really want 2.3GHz :)

Running the same chip currently @ 1.775 volts on a 8rda+

12 x 200

or 11.5 X 208

Both are 2.4 ghz :D

Your SLK-800 is a better heatsink than my Vantec Aero flow which my Idlea temps are 38-39C @ 45C under load...

Reseat that HSF, and see what happens ( Even though 60c is well within spec...)

That's within most specifications... but it's still too low... I'd definately suspect the power supply... run Prime95 and watch your CPU voltage, see if you see any spikes or dips.
