stumped with 9700 PRO lockups

recently updated to cat3.9 drivers and and getting lock ups in openGL games like serious sam and call of duty .... any direct3D game works fine .... unisntalled the drivers and reverted back to CAT 3.7 and having the same issue ...... tried Omaga drivers with same issue ..... did a clean install of Cat 3.7 and guess what ? same issue .... no OC and ran 3Dmark 2001 a few times to rule out heat issue .... also the case is well ventilated .... help please 🙁
