Stumped about hub...

I have this [crappy] internal 10mbps hub+NIC made by "Intellinet" (the NIC uses Realtek 8029chipset) on my Win98SE computer (the server for ICS, etc) and connected to it is my Win2K with a DLink 538 10/100 NIC and another Win98SE with DLink 530 10/100 NIC computer. Before I moved my 56k modem from my W2K to the server, the LAN worked fine using TCP/IP. After I moved the modem, the Win98SE client computer is unable to link to the hub; no lights on the NIC or hub come on. Plus, Win98SE client can't ping the other computers other than itself. I've already checked all the cables, NICs, and the hub and they are working fine. Win98SE client connects to my W2K at 100mbps and are able to ping each other. I don't think it's because of the distance between the Win98SE client and server, since they worked before and are less than 25ft apart. I've already tried different NICs on the Win98SE client, yet no matter what NIC is in it, the computer wouldn't link up to the hub! Any ideas?

if you are using the same cable to connect to the hub that you used to hook directly to your win2k box, thats the problem. you need a straight through cable.

Actually no.. I used a coupler + cross over cable with the straight cable when connecting the client computers directly and without when connecting to the hub.
