That's pretty cool. I wonder what other metals get taken up by trees in useful quantities.

The Zumwalt class naval destroyer was designed around the Advanced Gun System. Three of the destroyers have been built (out of 32 originally planned) with the new guns. The ammo for the Advanced Gun System proved to be so expensive, at US$800,000+ per round, that Congress cancelled the ammo program so the three ships have never had and will likely never have ammo for the guns for which they were designed. Each ship could have conceivably burned through $20 million/minute firing the guns.

This machine visualizes the number googol. That's a 1 with a hundred zeros. A number thats bigger than the atoms in the known universe. This machine has a gear reduction of 1 to 10 a hundred times. In order to get the last gear to turn once you'll need to spin the first one a googol amount around. Or better said you'll need more energy than the entire universe has to do that.

no, it isnt. its a googolplex.
And there is absolutely no evidence you need more energy in the universe. thats just horse shit.

I think this a googol which is 10^100. Which make sense if the gear reduction is 10 to 1 times 100 gears. I thought googolplex was 10^googol. I could be wrong but either way I agree that it can't possible to take all the energy in the universe. I would agree that it would take an eternity though.

I think most of us understood New York was a hell-hole in the 70's and some of us even understood why, but I had no idea how close the city came to total and complete failure in 1975.
There's a buttload of really good articles on this, many from the New York times. I can't post them cuz I've used up my free monthly allowance.
Let me get you started and you can go from there.

BFD. Have you seen the nutrition information on a Big Mac and fries or half a pizza? There's only so much sugar that can be crammed into cereal and they're pretty close to that already. That Twinkie cereal has less sugar per gram than Honey Smacks, Froot Loops with Marshmallows and lots of other cereals that have been around forever.

The Maiden of Llullaillaco, sacrificed at around the age of 15, was discovered with the other "Children of Llullaillaco" which includes a 6 year old girl and a 7 year old boy.

These mummies are so well preserved due to their position within a tomb atop a mountain within the extremely dry Atacama Desert. They are so well preserved, that their internal organs are intact, individual hairs on the arms can be seen and even one of the heart's still contains frozen blood.

The deaths of the three children occurred by drugging the children with alcohol and coca, then placing them in the tomb where they eventually died in their sleep. This appears to have been a very well prepared process, as hair samples dictated that the children had extremely rich diets leading up to their deaths. The tombs were also adorned with elaborate dress and trinkets.
