I have tons of files on my workstations and servers like this. Usually it's 'stuff' or 'what' or 'test' and it's just a dumping ground for bullshit I'm working on.. shell scripts or perl or if I need to dump some output somewhere.

A bunch. I even have one called "sample text file.txt" that just has some Lorem Ipsum in it.

I have one of these. Every year or so, I go through it and categorize into 10-20 files. Right after, it takes a while to find anything - just like when I clean the house. Every ~5 years, I combine all files and re-categorize.

btw, if ircc, conficker goes through files looking for passwords.

I have crap like this all over my hd. I keep telling myself that I need to be more organized.. but the moment the next thing comes up where I have to jot something down really quick it ends up being some random text file that I throw randomly on my hd again.

I keep a notes.txt file on my desktop for just pasting stuff to that I'll need later. It's like a scratch pad.

oh yeah, I do that on my work computer. I keep my home computers a little more organized, but I care less about the work computer, while at the same time not wanting to delete anything. so I have a folder that is "old desktop".. inside that is another folder called "old desktop" from the previous time, inside that is another folder also called "old desktop" from the time before that. currently it just goes three deep; at my previous job I think I got it to three deep there too.

Yep, although I'm usually pretty good at properly naming my .txt files so I can actually remember what I enter into them

I don't usually have any. If I do it is for things like CD Keys or something of the sort. I did it for my W7 key and called it clever.txt. I had to browse to my vista partition and then the desktop to open it in W7 though... Heh.

I've got New Text Document in my Startup folder - it's a nice list of various things I need to remember to do.

I've got an entire drive called "stuff". Default dump location until i get unlazy and actually sort stuff into their respective folders.
