I'm up here in Corte Madera and I really don't have anything to do tomorrow other than a bit of shopping. It's pretty much supposed to rain all day. I do have a car. Where should I go? My mom is probably going to want to come along so it needs to be family appropriate. ;)

Go over to Angel Island. Take the Tour
Stay away from Pier 39 / Fishermans Wharf at all costs.
But if you must go there, take the ferry. Check out the Aquarium.
Take a walking tour of the GGNRA.
Drive out to Stinson Beach
Drive over to Berkely and eat at SKATEs (on the water, great views)

That's where my grandmother lives! Was trying to find someone in the area earlier to set up her Christmas tree for her because she's all alone.

Anyhow, if you're over 21, go wine tasting. If you've got some younger kids with you, hop over the bridge and go to the Exploratorium. Ghiradelli Square is always fun for me to walk around and look at things. There's the Snoopy ice skating rink in Santa Rosa (about 40 mins from you normally).

Most of the stuff people suggested are for nonrainy days.
Drive down to Monterey. I know its far but the aquarium is tops by all standards. You'll really have a good time there.

I absolutely LOVE point reyes. There are some beaches which are accessible with mile long trails that are populated with Tule Elk.

Muir Woods

Take a hike on the coast. It is pretty in the rain.

Drive around in the fog. Watch out for some crazed ATOTer who thinks driving 60 mph on a foggy mountain road in the rain, at night, north of San Fran* is "crawling".

*Those ATOTers whose blood pressure just went up by 50 psi may feel free to add the "cisco" in their mind's eye.

Well today I'm going to do a bit of shopping that I need to get done, and then drive over to Danville to see the car museum. Tomorrow we're going to San Jose anyway to see the Winchester house, so from there we'll probably drop down to Monterey to see the aquarium, and then drive the coast highway back up north.

In Monterey are there any specific ocean lookouts that are significantly better than others?

Yep. In Monterey, the whole area is picturesque. Try the 17 mile drive, Carmel beaches. Go down to the Coast gaurd jetty which is right after the tunnel leading to Cannery row. You'll see sea lions lounged about 3-4 feet below you, far enough you can touch them. Immensely huge and fat ones too. They usually sunbathe on the rocks after being in the water for so long. You can see the scores of kayakers and scubadivers swim right there along with the sea lions.
Along Hwy 1 after Carmel is the Pt Lobos Marine reserve. Beautiful area for sure.

Right after that place is Garrapata state park along the coast with remarkable views of the bluffs and headlands along the shore.

I hope you and all people like you keep thinking that. It keeps you out of my beautiful wine country and keeps it nice and rural.

You might be referring to the post I made about my grandfather, and he's dead now. My grandmother doesn't have the same prejudices.

I can't believe a park in SF would have a sign like that nowadays.
