I'll be heading out west next month to visit a friend near Harrisburg. We're going to a hookah lounge and a house party, but beyond that... I have no idea. Is there anything worth checking out in and around Harrisburg? We'll probably have a few hours to kill between hookah and the party. While we're talking about Harrisburg, how's the parking? What about areas that I should stay away from? The hookah place is somewhere along North 2nd Street.

I live in State College, PA - about an hour or so westerly of Harrisburg.

You can check out Appalachian Brewing company and Troegs Brewing company.

Appalachian Brewing has a restaurant and bar to eat and hang out. Troegs just does brewer tours; have not done so myself.

Appalachian Brewing is okay beer, nothing too mind blowing but you might as well check out a local microbrew pub while you are there.

Outside of that, I don't think there is jack shit to do in Harrisburg.

Let your buddy deal with it?

She doesn't live IN Harrisburg, she goes to school near it. She's never actually been to the city either.

Where does she live?

She goes to school at Shippensburg.

If you guys like brew pubs, there is an awesome one north of Harrisburg in Selinsgrove called, cleverly enough, Selinsgrove Brewing.. They are the best microbrew I have ever had - I have traveled from New York City to Los Angeles and all over in-between and I still think Selinsgrove Brewing is the best beer I have ever had.

The downside is that there isn't anything else to do in Selinsgrove and it is probably a good 45 minutes to an hour north of Harrisburg.

Central PA. Nothing to do but get drunk. However, as others have said, there are plenty of cool places to drink.

Depends what you're into. If you're just looking to kill time, go for a walk to City Island (if it gets warmer). I definitely wouldn't drive all the way from Shippensburg to Harrisburg just for a party. I'm sure there are plenty down there. If its daylight hours, I'd check to see whats going on over at the Farm Show Complex. We have a big auto show starting up next week.
