Trump is spectacularly the most race bating person that America has seen in 50 years.

Of course, he has. But not because of him, but in spite of him. This should be obvious, right? When actually confronted with a moral choice, people of conscience will make the right choice. But first, they must be confronted with that choice. This is why I tell all my liberal friends that Trump being President is a good thing (in the short term).

Not sure if this has been pointed out yet, but could this have nothing to do with Turmp and everything to do with people taking minorities more seriously about their claims of racism because of various factors (i.e. when one person says something then a deluge of others go "yeah they did the same thing to me" like women with sexual assault/harassment, or the people recording the crazy racist shitbags harassing them)? That stuff has really taken off the past few years (that just happens to coincide with Turmp being in the White House).

I know of quite a few people that used to dismiss that stuff who now are seeing how it absolutely has been happening, so if they had been asked their opinions about it even just 5 years ago, and then now, they probably would've given very different answers. No joke, there were people that legitimately felt "America doesn't have a racism problem, we have a black President."

There are major flaws in that article and the conclusions derived from the study.

For one, it only touches on anti-black and anti-Hispanic incidents. It completely sidesteps anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim incidents. Gee, I wonder why you and the Spectator author are conveniently ignoring those?

Moreover, it's based on a survey of 2,500 people that gauges prejudices in their opinions. Not incidents -- just opinions. So it's not even about hate crimes, it's about sentiment. And the FBI has recorded a sharp uptick in hate crimes ever since Trump's election.

And did you even finish reading the article? The researchers point out that Trump may have reduced prejudice by galvanizing people against him. That is, people realized he was such a racist shitbag that it made them rethink their views. There's also the possibility that people who evinced racism against Obama are more relaxed now that there's another old white man in office.
Your last paragraph there is very plausible.

First, from what I've heard from a well respected source is that they're just reporting on these crimes differently than the have in years past. They've tweaked the criteria and have more agencies reporting now. But in fact, it is doubtful that actual hate crimes are actually up. Secondly, that is a meaningless stat in the best of cases. Something like this is considered a mass shooting and not a hate crime. Sorry, but the picture is skewed. You might as well throw that graph in the garbage.
I don't want to believe reality so the numbers are rigged. OMG where have we heard that before?????

Same bullshit used explaining unemployment numbers. You must try harder.

I think , if this is true, it has everything to do with trump but not in the way SS thinks, but just the opposite, they reject trump's racist rhetoric

as for the source, it's only well respected on the right. actual thinking folks see it for what it is.

Many people are saying, many, that a well respected news source you're citing is the inside of a snapple cap.

So to summarize: The info on hate crimes was never good, the data was always dubious at best and today there are more people reporting them that did not in the past, there are more agencies reporting on them, and they've tweaked the criteria for what constitutes a hate crime. In short, the data is being manipulated and isn't good in the best case. Also, this study found that since Trump's election we are less racist. I know I see this in my every day life. Despite the left trying to build faux racism and division for the sake of their TDS, we are probably actually getting along better today than we have in years past. In sports they say winning solves everything. I think we're seeing the same here, thanks to Trump we're all doing so well that we're all winning.
