Volcano? Same guy I previously mentioned had one, that was his preferred method other than cooking with it.

Vaping bud does work really well although I don't usually bother.

Best part is the leftover/used bud from vaping will still contain enough active ingredients to be used in cooking and get you high. (plus it's already de-carbed)

I don't remember what it was. It was a high end little black box with some red and blue LEDs on it. Although I definitely did it a few times out of a cleaned out lightbulb like a meth tweaker. Had to be careful not to put too much heat into it otherwise you'd go past vaporizing and into smoking.

No doubt about it... chasing high THC numbers is mostly pointless and will not result in getting the best bud only in paying substantially more. (The "sweet-spot" for me seems to be 25-28%)

IME anything above roughly 31-32% THC really kills terpene-levels in particular so the bud tends to be "one-note" in terms of flavor/scent. I also find that super-high THC bud (say 35-36% or above) tends to just knock me out more than it provides an enjoyable "high".
I don't think I've even seen anything over 27% out here (and I wouldn't be interested even if I did :p)

The highest I've seen in a Connecticut dispensary so far has been a 40% (!!) Indica and I did buy 7g's of it.... ended up slightly disappointed mainly because of the price-premium I paid.

In Mass one time I snagged 3.5g's of some bud that was labeled 42% and that's the highest I've ever seen.... not sure I trust it either. (to be fair I've never visited a West Coast dispensary)

I prefer a medium-size glass bong equipped with a glass-screened 1-hit bowl.... not quite as efficient as a pipe but MUCH easier on the lungs/throat since the smoke is filtered and cooled.
Can I get link(s) to online source(s)? I wouldn't know what I was looking at necessarily in a B&M joint and would hope to buy something I am satisfied is right for me... TIA!

1st time I got high was on 2 joints (IIRC, pretty ordinary size) laid on me by a buddy from the U (we had lived in the dorm together). I brought those back with me to Cambridge, Mass. where I was living for the summer with another buddy of mine, from H.S., who was enrolled at Harvard on scholarship. He supervised me as I smoked those 2 joints, putting them out between tokes. After finishing the 2nd J I suddenly realized I was high!!! I mean high!!! I had no idea what to expect, but I have never been as high since, even on shrooms (which I did once and did hallucinate, but it was infinitely different). Those joints were probably from Mexican grown and smuggled MJ, but I had no info concerning their origin. It was 1964 (the idea of a dispensary was science fiction at the time). I was Alice in Wonderland, but more so.

I have a bong just like this - it's a bit different without any logos - and it's pretty sweet. The notches near the top let you put in ice cubes to make the smoke extra smooth.

I don't smoke much, though. Maybe once or twice a year. I'd like to smoke more, but it makes me paranoid and doesn't help my anxiety.

Yeah, I can sure relate to that. I figure maybe smoking more often would ameliorate that.

I normally use a bubbler, which is sort of combining a pipe and a bong, it's a handheld pipe that adds water filtration. I tend to smoke pretty small amounts, so anything beyond a small bong seems like more air/smoke volume than is really called for. I would also recommend just asking an employee at a local place versus buying online.

I've tried a lot of different smoking methods, hot air vaping is nice but you have to keep it clean or else it builds up too much resin and gets way more annoying to clean. I've got a davinci iq which works pretty nice and is pretty easy to clean.

I've gotten into wax and concentrates a lot more since it became legal here, started with a bong with a quartz cup but ended up getting an electronic rig which is much easier to deal with.

I still smoke flower though, I just use a bowl for that though.

You might be aware of this already, but try to stick to Indica strains as opposed to Sativa, or at least an Indica-heavy hybrid. The Sativas are typically the ones that will make you feel energetic, but can also cause anxiety and paranoia. Indica is the one that will help you sleep, or "couchlock" you if you consume too much earlier in the day.

Something else I do that I've seen recommended by others is mix in a CBD-containing strain with my higher THC strain.

I always prefer to put my hands on a piece of glass before I buy based on a few disappointments buying bongs/dab-rigs online... tough to tell how thick/sturdy they are in particular.

Online head-shops are handy for getting an idea of what you want and roughly what it should cost but I suggest looking into what you have available locally and actually buying from them.

Something like the below should do nicely:

$46+ shipping @ Mary-Janes Headquarters

These are mine.... I use the smaller/blue one more frequently:

Why do you have three smoke alarms on the same wall?

One for sativa, one of indica, one for hybrids?

One belongs to the landlord (and doesn't work!) but I never bothered to take it down because I don't want to potentially hear crap about it when I move out.

The other two are mine... one is carbon-monoxide though not smoke.

Actually, in Berkeley, CA there should be plenty to choose from. I just haven't been in a head shop in decades. Thanks for that post and the graphics!

I use a Firefly 2 for vaping concentrates and a Firefly 2+ for vaping flower. I can control the max temp and how long it takes to reach the max temp via an app on my phone. We really are living in the best timeline for dope.

This article is on NYTimes online front page right now

Although I've seen concentrates supposedly as high as 89% THC those numbers are highly suspect and are mainly there because high-thc numbers drive sales. Most concentrate tops out around 70% IRL. (still damn potent)

I've actually 99% given up vaping oil and dabbing myself but mainly because they both tear up my lungs and throat a lot more then bud does.

As for that NYT article I'm extremely skeptical.... the "reefer-madness" mentality is still alive and well.

@Captante...

I saw some cheap bongs on Ebay. I have a feeling you would think this primitive if not a joke. What's your take?

Hookah Water Pipe SG Bong 8" Classic Tobacco Smoking Beaker Base w/ Carb Hole

It's a lot better then a regular pipe and will cool the smoke somewhat, however I would look in the area of 11-12 inch's in height and most importantly get something with a "percolator" that breaks up and better cools/filters the smoke. (It makes a HUGE difference)

kc-bk11_10.webp

No question this kind of bong will cost you more ($83) but its money well-spent since a year after you buy it you'll still like it instead of shopping around for a replacement! Also note these bongs don't need a carb... you just lift the bowl.

This one looks even better .... it has a more effective "perc" design AND it's cheaper @ $69.

Diamond Beaker Base Ice Bong with Tree Perc | 11.8 Inch (Grass City)

Thing is its impossible to really feel the "quality" of these examples from a picture which is why I suggest going to a local head-shop to purchase even if you pay a premium. (if the glass is too thin the bong will shatter with the slightest tap)

Thanks. I have been checking out @dank69's Firefly 2+. I know nothing about these things. I have read a bunch of the reviews. Seems good for dry buds. There are optional things though, which makes it more complicated/confusing.

Edit: That bong is OOS ATM.

That diamond beaker looks good and the reviews inspire but when I try to "Choose color" there's no option shown, so can't add it to Cart. I suppose this implies it's OOS? Tried my usual Chrome, same thing happens in Edge.

Edit: That bong is OOS ATM.
