That's probably the result of our fast-food culture. Parents either don't have the time or don't want to spend the time to fix anything resembling a balanced meal.

What a surprise. When so many adults are coming home after work and ordering out pizza and stuffing their neglected children with potato chips to keep them happy this sort of thing happens.

When I have kids their snacks are going to be frigging milk and carots.

Console culture too! Parents buy Xboxs to keep their kids planted in front of the tube instead of giving them things that force them to use their mind.

cuz we all know how much reading burns calories and fat. jk.

Actually, the most fun I've had in a while was running cat5 cables in my school. Never had a better workout than running cable up and down across 12 floors.

Hahaha! An ironic moment: The ad at the top of the page is for eDiets and says "Lose 10 pounds by Jan. 14!"

NO SH*T!, how can they help it. There is so much junk in this Country its almost nasty. I used to live in Africa(yes, Africa), and over there fruit was considerd junk food!!. Or pretty much anything sweet. Grains, meat's and vegtibles were my main courses over here, then I came to the states......, the first thing I had had over here was captin crunch!. Personanly I dont think America will ever have to worry about over population, due to the horrible foods people eat on a regular basis.

<< Overweight children, defined as those whose body mass index (BMI) exceeds the 95th percentile for their age and gender >>

<< Overall, about 22% African-American and Hispanic children were overweight >>

How can 22% of children be above the 95th percentile?

From what I've seen, as soon as kids get to High School, those extra pounds will just fall off. Gotta impress the ladies. And, for the most part, this statement is true. But, there are exceptions to everything.

I myself weigh around 125lbs @ 17yrs old. I'm not a sport figure, nor am I bones. I work enough to keep a good figure; these days, I can't stand to be kept up in my room doing nothing.

I know what it is, its because all the fast foods chains have these biggie or super size options, its only a reason for people to get fatter and now with the invention of that scooter thing, it will replace bicycles and excercise will be completly ruled out eventually. fatty fatty boombaladies!
