I'd be willing to argue that if Marijuana were legal, usage could go down in kids.

You see alcohol and tobacco use lower because it's often times a pain to get them because they're regulated. Marijuana is all over the place and they aren't taking ID to buy it.

That's almost worth of being in somebodies signature.

I got to work 6-7 minutes late today and I was greeted at the door by everybody else in the office going outside to smoke on the clock. I lol'd all the way to my desk.

In other news 1 in 15 high school students are more relaxed and eat increased amounts of snacks.

1 out of 15 high schoolers smoke DAILY? That is a hard number to believe.

Just sounds like a high number to me. ;)

I was a stoner, friends with a lot of stoners, but I can't imagine 1 in 15 at my HS smoked every day. Hell, half the people would come up with excuses how they couldn't afford a dime bag and tried to bum off everyone else.

Meh, about 60-70% of my highschool smoke on a bi-weekly basis. I would say probably 1 in 20 daily. Maybe a little more. The figure isn't going to be all that accurate as im sure a lot of students just answered what they WOULD be doing not what they are. But still im sure it's a pretty significant number.

If you have any sort of mental ailments, pot will only exemplify the severity of it.
I've always had depression, more times than not, made it worse.
I already had problems working up motivation, that only made it worse as well.
I regret all the years I spent smoking weed. I could have accomplished so much. All those years were a waste.

I've come to realize that cigarettes was far more likely to be gateway to drugs, than pot.
Before I started smoking cigarettes or pot, I was like. Well, if I can, or like smoking cigarettes, I wouldn't mind trying pot if had opportunity.
First opportunity I had to smoke weed, I went for it.
Several folks I spoke to said they had the same view on pot, before they tried it. Yep.

I'm 3+ years clean of tobacco & weed. Feels great.
I just miss the social life more than I miss the drugs themselves.

The correlation between pot smokers and schizophrenia doesn't have any evidence that it's a cause of the condition. I think it's more likely that the types of people who try it and find that they like it are often those who are prone to mental illness.

There are also studies that suggest that the more intelligent a person is, the more likely they are to experiment with drugs. There's also a link between those with a very high IQ and the diagnosis of bipolar, schizophrenia and ADHD.

For some with any of these conditions, certain types of cannabis can calm and balance their thought patterns. This depends on the person and it also depends on what variety of cannabis we're talking about.

This is another reason that legalization would improve the situation. When you buy it from someone illegally you often don't know what type you're getting, the strength will vary a lot and the difference between heavy indica and heavy sativa strains is huge. One mellows the mind and the other spurs racing thought patterns and potentially paranoid thinking in people susceptible to it.

I am pleased that high school kids are using less of the toxic drugs like cocaine, alcohol and tobacco, and more of the non-toxic cannabis.
I am optimistic about our future leaders of America.

Really when it comes down to it...how many HS girls were date raped after passing out or losing all inhibitions from pot. Or got behind a wheel and put a car into a tree? Or smoked so much they wound up in an ER with pot poisoning?

I just have troubles..well having troubles with this. Kids are going to do shit...it's just what they do. Other than the whole illegal thing...there just aren't as much health or safety risks with weed as there is with alcohol.

Everyone I know that smokes pot is at least 65 inches tall. Does marijuana prevent dwarfism? I don't know, but I consume it almost daily just in case.

that seems excessively high (no pun intended0

I don't think so. Imagine a classroom of 30 kids. Two being hardcore stoners seems about right from my experience. Of course my experience is from a long time ago. I don't know what the hell is going on now :^D

Another misconception...

Heavy meth use doesn't cause schizophrenia, it causes amphetamine psychosis that resembles schizophrenia. Which is almost always temporary and will stop after staying clean for several months or so.

Schizophrenia is not caused by the use of any drug, it is caused almost completely by genetics. Use of certain drugs might make your first psychotic break occur earlier in life than it otherwise would have, but that's about the extent of it.

Lol serious? I know very few people for my age, something of a loner, but just about everyone I can think of save myself has tried it and yes I know a few stoners. The number may be exaggerated by a little but I don't think it's too far off.

Cant tell if serious...

I'd wager that easily 75% of people in high school have smoked cannabis. Probably more like 90%.

1 in 15 smoking daily is probably an underestimate. I live in a pretty conservative area that's really harsh with laws about this stuff, and even here I'd guess the real number is more like 4 or 5 out of 15 smoke daily.

It's just that a lot of people aren't open and honest about it because they don't want to get in trouble. Yay, drug war!

I seriously doubt 1 out of 15 smokes pot daily. Maybe weekly, with a greater number on a monthly basis, but not daily. Doubt that.

Certainly consistent with when I went to high school, but that was in Canuckistan.

We had 25-30 kids in a class, and there were about 2 daily stoners in each class.
