Seriously, turn off your fvcking cell phones in class. It doesn't matter how important you think you are. Unless your father is having open heart surgery or your pregnant wife/girlfriend is due any minute (in which case you shouldn't even be in class), you can turn your cell off for an hour.

You don't need to see who called you during class. If its important they can leave a message. And switching it to 'silent' vibration mode doesn't suffice. The 40-50 people nearest you can still hear it. And you distract the rest of the class when you open/unzip your bag and go frantically searching for it. And if you need it to check the time, wear a watch, or get over it.

I was obligated by my employer to be reachable 24/7, even while in college. Yes, that meant I had to leave class sometimes on emergencies to go put out fires in IT. I'm glad you don't have to work for a living while you're in college, but some of us had to

I know it's no excuse for 85% of the college kids out there who have never done a day of honest work in their lives, but you definitley need to get over yourself.

Edit: oh, and I always had it in my pocket, on vibrate. Tough sh!t.

I have to agree. Once in a while is an accident, but there were some people who would have their phone go off every other class. I probably wouldn't have cared as much in HS, but I don't think cell phones were as prevalent back then; in college, where I was paying for the classes, it would piss me off to have the classes constantly interrupted because Cindy Lou couldn't be bothered to turn her cell to vibrate or silent, and loved to share the latest hip hop jingle with everyone.

i disagree. If your father is having open heart surgery its not like you can go in and help. Even after the surgery you have to wait until he is feeling a little better before you can see him. might as well go to class and have the phone in case a emergancy.

same with pregnant wife. you never know when she is going to pop (also it takes a LONG time). might as well go to class

I can count the number of people I knew in college who never had a job on... zero hands. Sure they're out there, but 85% is so far beyond an exaggeration.

Most people don't have such jobs. They just have friends who want to call or send a message about nothing significant. "OMG, I just saw this really hot guy/girl, you should have been here! What are you doing?" Frivolous stuff that easily can wait.

Some teachers take points off of people's grades if their cellphones go off in class.
One teacher does a really moronic thing though - he'll take 2 points off of everyone's next quiz grade if anyone's cellphone goes off. He's hoping that social pressure will make people want to turn off their phones. I wish he was joking, but he's serious. Kind of sad, really. If anything, it'll probably earn the owner of the phone high-fives from his pals in the class.

Yeah, I can't stand it either. Most people nowadays though just forget. It's still annoying, but at least they're not doing it on purpose.

My famil members have my school schedule. If they reach me while in class, i will ignore them but if they repeated call, you can sure bet that i will leave class and answer the phone.

But common sense is lost on some people when it comes to cell phone manners and class.

I would imagine the vast majority of cell phone users who receive calls in class don't actually answer them. Which means they frantically try and find their phone to either silence the ringer, turn it off, or both. Which also leads me to believe that, if given the choice, these people would turn their phones off before lecture. People forget stuff all the time. I agree that it's annoying, but mistakes happen.

I had an astronomy lecture last year in which some fvckstick had a cell phone go off during class. The phone rang and rang and rang for like four minutes before it stopped. I'm not sure why the person didn't turn the damn thing off, but it happened again another ten minutes after the first incident. The prof told us to "ignore it" and continued with the lecture, while some of the more adventurous of us stood up and told the idiot to turn it off. Stupid people

Ever since the cell phone was invented its turned us into a buncha inconsiderate assholes. Classrooms, movie theaters, cars, checkout lines...it seems like everywhere there are people that have no concept of proper ettiquite when it comes to cell phone usage. Whats so hard to get? If your going to a quiet place turn the ringer off. If your driving pull off the road to talk. If your standing in line dont talk to your buddy about stock trades and the things you did with the whore in mexico. Its not that hard to understand yet people do it on a daily basis cause they are lazy or inconsiderate or just to stupid to instruction manuals

I don't care if someone has their phone on vibrate but having their ringer on is pretty annoying. What I really hate though are people who answer their phone during lecture, without even leaving. :|

just another sign that common sense, courtesy and respect are going out the window with the youth of America (and probably elsewhere)...

if they can do it in movie theathers, why not in class???

Get a better job.

Get over it.

The right way to do it, IMO, in your situation.

I was at a wake today and somebody's cellphone went off, loudly.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

A friend of mine is a math professor at CSULB. Your phone or pager disrupts his class...
Your out with a non-completion. First time, everytime.

I emailed him that video linked above, it was/is on youtube, he loved it :p
