More than 50 teenagers donated blood to get out of Saturday detention hall at Los Alamitos High School.

Student Steven Butler said giving up a little blood was a lot less painful then having to sit in detention.

He said in detention hall, you can't move and you can't speak.

So, compared to that, a pint of blood is nothing.

Blood-for-detention is something new to the American Red Cross' Aura Spencer.

"I wish more schools would do that," Spencer said. "You can give up your Saturday or give up a pint to save a life.

I had a professor in college that used to give extra credit for giving blood, but the red cross people refused to sign the form we had to use as proof because they didn't want people doing it for the wrong motives. Morons.
