If you get a student loan for school from a bank, do you need your parent'a authorization?

only if they cosign and you are over 18. I highly suggest you get a cosigner. It dropped my interest rate by 3%.

If you can, try to stay away from loans till you reach the graduate level.

if she doesnt get a scholarsihp or financial aid, tell her she had better find a new college. I'm paying 20k a year, and with help from the parents, i am collecting a nice $1040+ a year interest even though i'm still in school :disgust:

then tell her to declare independence and get off their tax deduction list -- the school will likely cover most of that if she is a strong scholar

Don't use a cosigner. If you default on the loan, the bank will come after the cosigner and that will probably damage any personal relationship you have with them. Remember, banks can't suck blood from a rock.

Not necessarily on student loans. Mortages, car loans, yes, but student loans are categorized in some weird way were defaulting on them isn't as traumatic. It has something to do with hardship and having them forgiven. Of course, I'm not endorsing that you default on any loan.
