Yes, I am saying nothing should be done. They searched his house for any weapons and found a hammer. Wow, so they didn't find what they wanted so they said the hammer was a weapon he could use.

Also, he did this before the VT thing happened. They just found out afterwards.

So, if I made a map of my workplace, I should be fired? Huge overreaction. BTW, I'm 25 and also used to play CS a bunch. By older, I mean the generation before video games, people 40+ mostly. The same ones that think video games are the cause of all violence and try to tie it in every time there is a murder.

Expelled? Yes

In this day in age, you just can't do that sort of thing. How stupid is the kid?

I'm sure the kid would never do something to his school, but we CAN'T take that chance.

The same people that say the school overreacted would cry foul if the kid did shoot-up the school and the school didnt do anything after finding out about his cs map.

Stupid, stupid kid.

Please tell me where he broke any school rule or any law? What grounds was he expelled on? Is that where our society is going? We can be arrested for playing video games that older people do not agree with?

I'm 23 and use to play cs alot.
He wasn't arrested he was expelled.

A school should have the right to expell students that cross the line. Are you going to tell me with Columbine, VT, and other school shootings that this kid shouldn't be punished for making a FPS map about his school.

Like I said before, I'm sure the kid is fine but we cannot allow such stupid acts.

You do realize that he made the map before the VT shooting, right?

I love the spin in this article.

For instance:
Fort Bend County school district officials said the videogame Counter Strike is a shoot-to-kill game that allows players to create their own scenes.
Create their own scenes? IIRC mapping software isn't part of the CS package, it's a seperate program you have to download.

Someone should point out that the game is infact based on taking down terrorists. Thus the name counter strike.

Wow, great map. Particularly from a high school student.

This was completely unjustified, and only goes to show the outrageously stupid extremes of irrational fear that our authorities are in. And now, that's gonna be one of the most popular CS maps out there for a while. Way to go!

Oh I see...breaking unwritten laws is a bannable offense.

So if someone designs a map of lets say, a Best Buy or an office building. If we cannot allow such stupid acts, should the police get involved?

Believe it or not, it's not spin per se, it's stupidity. The media almost never has the slightest clue about what it reports on, they just pretend they do. If you want, you could go searching archives for other news articles on subjects that you are personally informed/educated about, and you'll see this is true.

i have thought that it would have been cool to have a map of my college. its was kinda funny when i was in the dorms my freshman year...soooo many people were playing cs. you could walk through the dorms and hear "GO GO GO" or grenades blowing up and random gunfire bouncing back and forth between buildings. would have been so cool to play on a replica map and have a gunfight in the dining hall.

so we have to run and hide over every little thing? This is not a new concept. Hell, I tried to make a map of our HS in the doom2 editor... I could not get split levels working right and gave up. Should I have been expelled?

Yes, he should have been evaluated, but they took things a bit too far. By their logic, the GTA folks need to be arrested as well because GTA IV resembles new york.

Bad analogy. If it was a BB employee would you be surprised when he got fired? Bolded the "when" because it's not a guestion of if. Now BOT: If the student didn't work for BB and then made a BB cs map based off his local BB, then no big deal because the connection to BB employees and customers isn't there; whereas, school shooters target their peers.

As I stated before, a couple of times I might add, because of previous school shootings he crossed the line. As I also stated, many times, I don't think the kid would do anything, but we must side on the side of caution.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin

That quote gets thrown around a lot these days. But, it's just as true now as it was in 1759.

i don't blame the school. if there was a recent school shooting, you wouldn't go into school with a fake gun to test the waters, would you?

There is tragedy everyday just so you know.

This is the kind of thing that pisses over-emotional teenagers off. I'm sure the kids at the high school are pretty ticked off about it (assuming they understand the nature of what occurred). So, instead of preventing something that was never there to begin with they just further fueled the fire of emo kids.

you have to be smart these days, kids know what is going to happen when they do things like this. it's not 1985 anymore, you can't make maps of your school in CS. if you do it anyway, you get what you get. we're past joking around at this point.

if you are going to be stupid and do something like this, keep it on the freakin down low.

School shootings don't have anything to do with video games. There is no connection.

So tell me how the kid made a "stupid act"? Is it because you have some magical proof that video games breeds violence, or is it a stupid act simply because it upset some overly sensitive people.

Stupid act: in light of 32 people being murdered at VT and in the back drop of other school shootings, making a FPS map designed aroung your school.

I'll say this for the last time: the kid most likely had NO ill intent but he should have been smart enough not to do something like this.

Why do schools evacute when there's a bomb threat? I've never heard of a bomb threat, in US schools, actually being carried out in my lifetime--but I heard about plenty of school shootings. They evacuate and search for the "bomb" because of the potential consequences if they don't. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.

Yes sometimes people need to be made an example of; he was.

Yeah, making an FPS map of your school is anywhere near the same thing as a bomb threat :disgust:
