Yeah... free iPod thread :p

Anyways, I'm thinking of getting a MacBook. As a student I am eligible for the free iPod deal. Now, if I buy online I realize I have to pay for both the iPod and the laptop, then I get a form to fill out for a rebate. What if I go in to my school's bookstore and buy directly from them? Will they just give me the free iPod there, or do I still have to buy it outright and then send in for the rebate?

You still have to do the rebate, but everything can be done online and you'll have the check within a week.

At the store, they ask for some form of ID. Online, they don't really validate it at all.

Yes they do. You have to have an email account with your college for the most part. At least I remember it that way.

Yah, Apple Rebates come insanely fast. I had my $100 printer rebate in about 10 days after purchase.

When I ordered my MacBook Pro, all I had to do was select a college. I didn't need to provide any other verification.

Neither did I, though that was almost 2 years ago now. I tried Dell's website around the same time, but you had to have a .edu address and send them a copy of something from the school (a specific form). Since I was not technically enrolled yet, and my school used .net I couldn't even browse their education prices (Dell that is).

Ditto. This was last August. Can't imagine they changed it in a matter of a year.
