Cyclist gets killed...and the question is whether Cyclists are a Hazard?

lolwut?

Anyway, Cyclists need to get it through their thick(not enough to live apparently) skulls that when they are on the Streets, they are just another Vehicle. They have no Right to disobey the flow of Traffic or the Traffic Laws. I think it's coming to the point where Licensing Cyclists is becoming a necessity, especially in Cities.

Yeah, the bikers here at the University of Minnesota are crazy too. I'm a biker myself but I'm actually careful and stop for red lights and stop signs. It's not even the running of red lights and stop signs that gets me, though... it's the fact that much of the time, most of them don't even slow down for them, nor do they look around at all. They just keep going without looking or slowing down and expect any nearby vehicles to dodge them. It's fucking crazy.

Not on campus, but in downtown LA the cyclists (asshole critical mass jerkoffs) routinely try to intimidate motorists all the while they ignore any and all traffic laws. Just save this this weekend and it made me sick, Im a cyclist and this just puts us all in more jeopardy by making motorists unsympathetic to our plight.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. May not be a Universal requirement, but I could see that it becomes a requirement in certain parts of a City.

Yeah, I am also a cyclist and there is no way I'd ever support those idiots. They do nothing but a disservice to the cycling public.

Ultimately, even if a person has the right of way I very much doubt they consider the principle worth losing their life over.

Don't trust cars to stop at crosswalks. Don't even trust them to stop at red lights. Certainly don't trust them to stop anywhere else. Use your eyes and your ears and your common sense.

Assume that everyone else is going to be an idiot, and act accordingly. Less than 15 minutes ago I witnessed an SUV barrel through a red light w/o even slowing down, I happened to be crossing the street at the time. :p

If I were a cop I'd sit at the red light all day, every day citing people walking/riding their bike when they didn't have the right of way
