Student accommodations - UCLA

...and is looking for a place to stay near the campus. Any LA folks have tips on how to find cheap apartments? There are 3 of them that could share but they each want a separate BR. He's looking at craigslist and westside rentals but is not able to find anything under $2000 that's a reasonable commute from the campus. TIA!

When you go to UCLA, adding 10 minutes to your commute will save you up to $500/month. That being said, it's almost impossible to find a reasonable 3 BR apartment. My advice is to just bite the bullet and try sharing a room.

check culver city and palms area if he doesnt mind driving or taking the bus

edit:

my friend had a 3-bedroom on sawtelle right past national and it was around 2k.. pretty nice and brand new building

Yeah...under 2K for a 3br within a 10 min drive of campus is highly unlikely. If they're willing to drive a little further, look in the SF Valley (Encino, Sherman Oaks), Palms, or Culver City. Those are all around 30 min (longer during rush hour) from campus.

Thanks for the responses, folks! I'm having him check this thread since he has a better idea of the LA area 🙂

check craigslist.

my place in west LA was huge, 2bed/2bath for $1395, so decent housing can be found in that area too (closer than palms).
