Been gaming at 1440p with my gtx 970 and been pretty happy. Was considering upgrading when AMD releases VEGA, but not really in a rush since my setup was OK, and im fine with turning down settings Ive I have to.
Went to the mall last week and finally tried out the HTC vive for the first time and I was immediately sold. Been playing for the past few days, and for the most part a 970 is fine for VR, but I havent really plated anything too demanding, and im sure if I had something a little higher it would run even smoother.
So now im debating possibly upgrading to a 1070 to get a better VR experience. I was kinda leaning towards AMD's next GPU because ive been eyeing a freesync monitor as one of my future upgrades, but if I get a 1070 that might push me towards the more expensive gsync.
I know there arent many people around here looking to buy a used 970 or 1070, so whatever I buy I'm kinda stuck with.
What should I do? Like I said I think performance in VR is satisfactory right now, but it could definitely be better. I really was leaning towards AMD for my next upgrade, especially since Ive heard rumors of an open source linux driver.
Also - picking up a 970 cheap might be an option as well and running them in SLI.
