Mobo: ASUS A8V-E SE
CPU: AMD 64 3700+
RAM: Corsair 2x512MB DDR
PSU: Stock 350w Antec that came w/ case

This PC has been running great for the past year and all of a sudden this morning I'm having a problem where it won't boot up past the initial BIOS screen. Everything powers up and I get the one normal beep.

It shows the ASUS A8V-E SE BIOS Revision... line and below that it says:

Main Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3700+

It just stays stuck on that line and nothing else happens. I've tried moving around the RAM and clearing the CMOS and both have not helped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot.

Have you added any peripherals lately? I had a wierd issue when I swapped my old epson printer for a usb lexmark last year. If I had the printer connected but not powered on, it would stop on the screen at exactly the same spot yours is stopping. When I had the printer powered on it worked fine. I liked to keep it off cause I use the printer like a couple times a year (and to save electricity!) and I would just turn it on when I needed to print. Now I have to have it on. Wierd...every other printer I've ever used was fine with this.

Probably not your issue, but you never know, I guess. Good luck!

Well, everything works like normal now. :)

I reset the CMOS and removed the battery again and when it started up, the big ASUS logo came on and just froze there (it said to press DEL to enter setup but it did nothing when pressed). I then unplugged the USB cable to the printer (which had said Shutting down... on its LCD -- apparently since last night) and the BIOS continued and I was able to set it all up again.

Don't know if it was just a fluke or the printer was indeed the problem, but thanks a lot for the advice!

I've never had this problem with a printer, but its happened to me several times using other USB devices ... for example my younger daughters PC (AXP 2100+/ Abit Via KT600) simply refuses to start up or shut down with her Ipod connected. Wait until Windows is loaded & the Ipod works fine
but otherwise no-go ... my guess is that theres a problem of some kind with USB power managment.
