stuck in serious sam demo

So how am I supposed to lower the bridge at the beginning, pulling the lever is no good as the mechanism is stuck, could use a little help as I'm already frustrated, it's probably something really dumb.

i dont remember a bridge. do you mean the floating platforms?

Grab the arm that's stopping up the gears. I think they're trying to show off the physics.
