Ok so I've been moving right along in this game, until this puzzle. Either I am missing something obvious, or there's some technique I don't know about, or something stupid. No idea. I've been staring at the puzzle off and on for months.

I haven't looked at a solution, I don't think that will help me learn what I am doing wrong.

Can anyone help me get unstuck?

I think you just gotta guess sometimes.

For those who don't know what this game is, you are given a grid as shown in the picture.

Each row and column have numbers on them which indicate which squares on the grid should be "on" (on is denoted by the lighter shaded cells).

If, for example, a row has the numbers 1 2 4 2, that means that there is one cell that is on, then 2 cells that are on in a row, then 4 in a row, then 2 more in a row. Each group of cells must be separated by at least 1 "off" cell.

"X" just denotes a user marked the cell as "off", you don't actually need the "X"s, they just help see the picture better sometimes.

The end result is that if you got everything correct, you should get a picture of something.

Your second column, sixth row.

Since the row is 2-1-1-1-2, and you have the last 1 blocked off already, the second column is a definite block. From there, you can expand out.

Edit: The second column is definite because it's part of the first 2 - which way it goes is still unknown though (either the 1st column or third).

I'm not sure thats correct, because in that row the 1 that I have blocked off isn't positively the last 1. There's room for a "1 space 2" in the block of 4 spaces at the end of that row, which means it could be either the last 1 or second to last 1.

Also, if I did fill in the block that you're suggesting, I still can't determine which number it is part of from that column, it could be either that 1 or 2, which would mean I'm still stuck.
