Stuck in environment with lots of cigarette smoke, any mask/filter that might help?

I'm thinking about getting a filter of some sort to breathe through, if it might help keep cigarette smoke out of my lungs. I find myself coughing uncontrollably at times after just an hour or so of exposure to second hand smoke. The country where I am living has a huge number of smokers, and there are virtually no anti-smoking laws, so moving to a less smoky environment isn't really an option in the short term. I have chosen a home outside the city in a very green and clean area, and I stay away from bars and restaurants because they are pretty much all filled with smoke at all hours. But still if I get a huge mouthful of very strong second hand smoke while someone walks by on the street (direct hit of a cloud of smoke, to the face), it can cause me to cough disruptively for the rest of the day; to the point where I cannot carry on a conversation and need to excuse myself for a few minutes as I go to a restroom have some water, hack and wheeze a bit, and then get my breathing under control.

Is there something smaller than a WW2 military gas mask that I could wear, which would help keep the second hand smoke out of my lungs? At this point I don't care if I look unusual, I just want to be able to breathe normally.

Thanks.

A dust mask would be close to worthless, a respirator is needed to completely block any second hand smoke. I'm a smoker but even I consider your co-workers fucking rude for continuing to smoke near you knowing you suffer from asthma/allergies. We have a designated smoking spot (for now) at work, talk to your boss about your problem and see if he/she would consider doing the same there, considering how bad it's affecting you they ought to listen..

Start chewing tobacco. Then when a smokers by product gets on you, you can put your tobacco by product on them.
