stuck in a room HL2 help

its early in the game ... i took a tunnel and and it led me to an air duct which dropped me on top of a lot of stacked barrels in large room ... the rooms floor is wire meshed ... I was attacked by a lot of those flying blade things ... now there is ladder that takes me down to a water enclosed room with a large opening but cannot get to it from the water ... the only opening I see is @ the top left corner but cannot get to it ..... help please
 
You have to climb and follow the pipes to the other side of the room that has the opening. Then you would have to climb and jump off more pipes to rotate the wheel to fill up the room your were just in with water to get to the whole you could not reach.
