Hyundai L90D+ $360
http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productde...20LCD%20Flat%20Pa&CMP=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r

Acer AL1912b $285
http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productde...09-035&ATT=Monitors&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch

Dell UltraSharp 1905FP $385
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/Prod...11&first=true&page=productlisting.aspx

Its tearin me up right now, please guys help me. I don't want ghosting in games but I don't want crappy text and images, as I spend a lot of time with my tv tuner on my pc.

If you know of any monitors better for under the price of the Hyundai (not the Dell because my mom trusts Dell and is willing to spend xxx more for them) let me know too.

I just ordered that Acer from Newegg. They had basically the same model except it was 12ms instead of 16 and had DVI. Same price, $6 more for shipping though.

I have the 1905FP and even though most people say games suck on it I find it perfectly sutilable for gaming and for hooking up my game consoles to it. I barely notice any ghosting that is annoying. My only conplaint is that DVDs played via DVI look like crap and look better in analog. I love mine.

If I had to choose, I'd take the Dell. I've already own the 1901FP and it was a bad-ass monitor. I now own the 2001FP and will own the 2405 in the near distant future.

I would choose the Hyundai for its response time. I don't know about its text clarity though. And as a side note, there isn't one magical answer that you seem to be expecting. It's a matter of opinion that is further based upon your circumstances.

^ oh crap i know bum... its between the hyundai and the dell now and i want good gaming but also clear everything else. I suppose it is important to know that my mom is totally for the dell, that I use my pc as my tv, that i plan on using the lcd for consoles (eventually or if possible), and that im pretty much a noob to pc gaming, in the sense that i havent been around long enough to know what ghosting is or even notice it however...

my computer (i know enough to build my own (budget))
-80gig hdd
-64 3000+
-512mb ram
-x700p 128mb

Hyundai L90D+ is the best there. Just look at the specs.

8ms response time
Dual input (DVI and VGA)
Contrast ratio- 700:1
1280x1024
19"

Because you will be doing gaming and TV, the difference between 8-bit and 6-bit will be much less noticeable than the difference between 20ms and 8ms. Some people say gaming on the Dell is fine, others won't game over 12ms. If you can't try both of them out first, I still say go for the Hyundai.

6 bit w/ dithering shows 16 million colors as well. Eyes will not be able to notice.

All fast response time monitors have 6 bit color. Its IMPOSSIBLE to make fast response + 8 bit color. The difference is 64 shades per subpixel3 per pixel) vs 256 shades. Don't be fooled by thinking 6 vs 8 is small.

LCD technology isn't perfect, so you will never find the perfect monitor that matches a CRT. IMO, I can't wait until OLEDs get here. LCDs are an inbetween and incomplete sort of technology, basically here to tide us over for our laptops and such until we get some OLEDs.

Btw, the Dell 19 inch is like ~250 when a good coupon comes along. The L90D is usually that price.. though I remember awhile ago some place had it for like 270 or something AR. The superior monitor? Obviously the Hyundai. Its not even an argument for gaming.

I went up to fry's the other day and sampled some 8ms monitors. Using simple solitaire tests, I could see NO ghosting. Text didn't look to bad either. DVD movie playback, I suspect is the 8ms monitors shortcoming, that and somewhat washed out colors in gaming. OP why not buy an 8ms LCD at a B&M, try it risk-free for 30 days and if you like it, keep it, if not return it, and try the dell or a similar 20ms panel.

Since I'm also in the market for a new monitor, and like OP, I'm torn on what monitor too get. I'm figuring, that since I already own a 25ms LCD, my next monitor will be a 19"crt. The crt for gaming and movies and the lcd for text on dual monitors. :)

I'm in the same boat. I LOVE MY 1905FP. You'd never hear me say something like that unless I really ment it. :)

although the Hyundai is excellent, they have a lot of problems with dead pixels. the quality of the acer is questionable. Go with the Dell, It is not a bad one

I would question the 16.7m (8-bit) colors listed in the specs for the HYUNDAI L90D+ rated at 8ms response. It is my understanding that LCD's rated at 8ms can only get that response time by using 6-bit color.

Purchased 2 LCD's. 19" Hyundai L90D+ 8ms 1 dead pixel, left side much darker than right, very good color, no ghosting, gaming delight; Acer AL1914SMD 12ms no dead pixels, good color/text, almost no ghosting, excellent general use. IMHO. Dead pixel policy Hyundai 5, Acer 4. Warranty both 3 years. Ended up returning the Hyundai....seems you either get one that is excellent or something like what I got.

cool, I figured the 1914smb was a better deal than the 1912b because of the lower response time and DVI, plus an extra set of speakers in case I'm in dire need of some :) Glad to hear it is a good LCD.
