I used the most current WD tools to transfer the data from the old drive to a newer one. Both are 40 gigs, the old one got very loud so I was swapping it out. However, when I get go to boot to the new drive, the machine is stuck at the "verifying dmi pool" message. It's like the drive isn't bootable or something.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gravity

Clear CMOS. Make sure you have the junper properly selected (master). Make sure cable is right and the bios recognises the drive.

Not special, but yes, I'm aware of those. I've tried the jumper in the master position, the CS position and with no jumper. Same result.

What WD tools did use use to clone the HD? Perhaps the WD don't get the job done like Norton Ghost will? So no bootable copy

Apparently that is the case. The drive didn't appear to be bootable. There are lots of places to find discussions on this topic but I couldn't find a solution that was functional. I even waited on hold with WD for 20 minutes, willing to pay 15.00 for support but they never picked up. My patience wearing thin, I did a fresh install to the new drive, what a waste. I made the old whiny drive a slave and copied my docs and other stuff to the new drive. Now I have to reinstall all the crapola that I had amassed over the last year. Nice.

Thanks for your suggestions.
