If anyone here is interested, STS100 (the 100th Space Shuttle mission) is slated to begin in about half an hour. You can find some stuff about it here and here. A list of video coverage can be found here.

:)

EDIT: I still can't get those link tags right...:frown:

Sadly, not many people ARE interested. I still think Space missions are amazing. I thik we need more funding for it, and the public needs to be more enthused/involved. I had the opportunity to be there last December for the launch of the mission to repair the hubble. --Without question, seeing a launch live was one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of my life.

From NASA's home page:

<< Discovery Go for Launch as Weather Threatens >>

and

<< Discovery's astronauts suited up for flight this afternoon for a scheduled launch at 7:40 p.m. EDT tonight. >>

:)

Yeah...more funding would be good. I just saw a show on Discovery Science about a potential asteroid hit, and the relatively miniscule cost of funding a search project would certainly be well justified.

Interesting...I just saw this on the second Discovery website I linked to:

<< Space shuttle Discovery is set to launch on its 100th mission Wednesday at 7:17 p.m. ET. >>

I'm guessing NASA hasn't updated their site yet...:(

The reason I knew when I did is I live about 30 miles from the launch pad and we get updates scrolling along the bottom of our TV when something newsworthy happens.

If they interrupted a TV show for a minute or at least had a caption at the bottom of the screen telling us I'd watch it without question. Of cource nowadays watching morons trying to win a million dollars is more important then science to ABC, so I'll just have to rely on Anandtech to inform me of this stuff.

Many of the local stations will add a small window showing the launch live during regular programming. It is nice to know things are going well. I was standing outside watching the Challenger rise up for the last time. It was easy to see something was wrong but at that moment you didn't know the extent of the difficulty. I guess I will carry that picture for a long, long time. When you consider the weight and the speed it is a marvel.
