SAN ANTONIO -- A 19-year-old exotic dancer was injured while sliding on a fire pole at a West Side fire station, sources told KSAT 12 News.

Sources said that three off-duty San Antonio Fire Department firefighters visited a gentlemen's club in October 2004 when two dancers followed the trio to Fire Station No. 10 at Culebra and Zarzamora roads because the women wanted to slide down the fire pole.

One of the dancers injured her back but refused treatment from paramedics, sources said.

SAFD officials, who just learned of the incident last week, are investigating.

Once the investigation is concluded, a recommendation will be made to Fire Chief Robert Ojeda, who will ultimately decide what action to take.

By "injury", do they mean she was naked and got 2nd degree burns from all that friction? ;)

From Dictionary.com

1. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: ?Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated? (Richard Kain).
2. An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity. See Usage Note at ironic.

So let's see, you figure a stripper, who pole dances for a living, would be able to succesfully slide down a real fire pole. But no, that's not what happened; she was injured in doing so.

I think that fits the description of irony.

Depends on the strip club.

Regardless, the majority of people would expect a stripper to be able to slide down a pole. Note the key word, expect.

Alanis' song wasn't in any way shape or form 'ironic'.

Okay, I can't tell this story at work. I told it and it sounded like a bad joke.

"Did you hear about the stripper that hurt herself sliding down the fireman's pole?".

She would have left a slime trail.

Or a semen trail, depends on before or after

By that BS definition of irony, the mailman delivering my mail later than I expected him to would be ironic.

I guess that you could call a stripper injuring herself on a pole ironic, but only in an Alanis Morisette kind of way.
