Can they be patched with liquid wood or anything? Using a nut is not an option.

I use toothpicks and Gorilla Glue. Clean out the stripped hole, squeeze some Gorilla Glue into and than start shoving wet toothpicks in the hole. When it drys, just cut off the exposed toothpicks. I've repaired several cabinet hinges like this and they are more secure than the originals.

what application is it?? ie: what kind of project is this board in? speaker box or something?? i would squirt some liquid nails in there and put a new screw a couple inches away.

Yeah it's a speaker box (amp cab actually). I'll try some liquid nails.

The way it's made I can't get the nut in the back of the screw hole because once the back piece in place there's no access to it.

Can you just use a longer screw?

Have a Rockler nearby you? Heck, any woodworking store should have MDF cabinet screws and corresponding stepped drill bit. Probably pricier than gorilla glue and toothpicks though.

Personally I'd go the dowel route, but if you wanted to take the time, you could countersink a large square nut into the reverse side.
