Strip/stuck lug nut

SAWYER

Lifer
I have a stuck/strip luck nut and the lug nut stud is also spinning, how should I get this off? I do not have a cutting torch or a drill but I can go by a drill if needed.

I dont have a compressor or impact wrench. What psi/hp compressor would be good enough to run an impact wrench?

If the stud is spinning; how is an impact wrench going to help? 😕

Depends how badly it's spinning - if it's just barely spinning under a lot of force, an impact might knock it free. If it spins easily, then it likely won't do anything.

I have a grinder and the stock pad that came with it I havent used, not sure if it will work on metal. I think it might be a little big to use efficiently in the space though. I can not drive because the lug nut is backed off and it is actually two that are spinning and stuck

4 or 5 lug wheels? If they're 5 lug, I would consider limping it to a shop on 3 (properly torqued - do not overtighten to compensate for the loose ones).

How far backed off are they? I'm wondering if there's enough room on the back of the hub to cut/grind the backing for the stud off, but there's probably not enough room.

Try to get at least one tightened otherwise it's time for the tow truck. I get the impression you don't have alot of tools or skills.

Take the hub off with the wheel still mounted. Grind off the back of the offending stud. Put in new stud.

Can you get to the back of the stud ? ? If you can get a welder to just quick tack it in place, remove the nut and then replace the offending stud.

Dremel with the reinforced fibre cutoff wheel. Buy five or six, wear safety glasses.
If you don't have welder and don't want to pull hub off.
Slit the nut till it falls off or if there is room just cut the stud off.
Take 20 min tops.

Use anti-sieze next time. 🙂
