Strip size?

I know this has all bin asked before, but what stripe size should I use?

I have an ABIT KR7A-RAID motherboard with the latest Highpoint bios/drivers. Two Maxtor D740X 40GB drive, and I do MOSTLY downloading. Computer sees pretty big files and idles most of the time. I also like to game a bit though. So what stripe size should I use? 16,32,64?

This will be the last time I format for a while, so I want to get it right.

I'm no expert, but I tell you my opinion. OK? 🙂

I have two different motherboards, both w/the Highpoint RAID chip. On both, I use a 64kb stripe size. I have found, thru benchmarking and "seat of the pants" testing that a 64kb stripe size gives the best performance with what I do, which is mostly gaming.

From what I remember from all the articles on stripe sizes that I've read, if you deal with mostly small files (maybe like an email server that caches thousands of 8kb-long emails or something like that) than a small stripe size is best b/c it wastes less space. But, if you deal with mostly large files, like games, photoshop, video editing, than a larger stripe size is best.

Good luck. 🙂
