stringing/tuning a guitar is one of the hardest things i've ever freaking attemptd

wrap the string around 2-3 times, then put it through the whole, tune... what so hard about that?

Good plan. It's really not that hard

You are probably tightening it up too much. Are you sure you aren't tuning it higher than it is intended to go? Do you have a guitar tuner to check with?
