Do you do it? If so why and if not why not?

I do it as it helps prevent injuries in Gymnastics which requires a lot of flexibility and warm up and stretching at the start. I once was a bit lax with my stretching and I hurtmy groin for a few days. Was not a good thing! So now I stretch thoroughly at the start of each session after my warm up. You should always stretch after a warm up that gets your body and warmer and blood fowing. Not good at all to stretch when cold.

When I really go for my stretch's I try to relax and think off me relaxing and chilling with my eyes closed. And not in the position that I am in. Yes it hurts and will do so until I'm really flexible but I wouldn't want to be too flexible as that can bring its own problems.

Y Balance

Straddle with flush body

Straddle with flush body2

And yes it does somewhat hurt when I am stretching to get it my body to go flush. But after a while it is dare I say it 'alright'. The pain isn't so much pain but more a comfortable position after I just stay down like it. The Gymnastics coach can sit on my back and get my back to go even more flush.

I use to never do that so it was good a few weeks ago when he decided to sit on my back and get me to go flush for the first time. I felt my legs were going to break and my hips snap. But they didn't and I tried to relax and it was better after that.

I stretch, which is essential for Tae Kwon Do. The groin stretches were excruciating...actually, all of them were painful at first.

It is just practice and a mental thing to put up with the pain. But the pain should never be too much that you actually feel that you are going to break. It comes close and probably does at times but just try to relax.

Used to but don't much now for weights. I've read recently that stretching for a weightlifter is overrated and can in fact lower your immediate output strength if you stretch up a heck of a lot before you try and lift something .I've never found benefits eitherway so I've pretty much stopped. I warm up with 1-2 light sets but that's it.

I stretch a lot. Between playing hockey and football, I need to be stretched to prevent cramps and muscle pulls.

I also find that it helps my performance. I am able to react more quickly when my body is more flexible.

What you have read is correct.

My coach tells me that also. I of course don't do all of that stretching before I O-Lift, it isn't needed. I do dynamic stretch's starting out slow then building up pace. I work a range of movement around my main joints. I also start with lighter weights and build to training weights on all of my exercises. I think the affects last for about 20minutes.

I only do a lot of stretching for Gymnastics as you injure yourself when trying to do simple things. It requires some degree of flexibility and others a lot. Most of it is to show you can do it in a routine or such so it looks nice in competitions. I don't do competitions in Gymnastics but do it as it is good to test yourself imo.

Yeah I can see how you'd need to for gymnastics. Can't do the splits without practice :D

I am extremely flexible from my past of gymnastics and kung fu, plus I'm double jointed.
I stretch any areas I'm working out before doing so, and I stretch before and after I run.
I don't stretch to increase/maintain stretching distance, because that stays the same whether I stretch every day for 3 months or don't stretch at all for 3 months.
I just stretch to prevent injury (especially shoulder injury from lifting) and release tension during/after a workout.

so no, i dont ;)

;) they are definately here :)

Can't do box splits though. Now that hurts like a mofo. I can pretty much do front splits with either leg in front but no box splits. 3inch's away from it or so. Will be hard to nail those last few inch's. Now that requires your nuts removed!

Glad it is getting better. Mine hurt me for about 4 days lucky it wasn't worse. I did stretch but wasn't as thorough as I usually was, but now I am thorough all the time. You always near enough end up paying for it later.........

Yeah wanted too but busy with training and college. No enough days in the week to do what I really want lol.

It would be interesting if the pilates class was good at the local leisure centre. It is on a Thursday which I work :(

Some of the guys/girls at the Gymnastics club are really flexible.
