Stressful period coming up - how should I manage stress?

Starting Mid May, I'm going to be doing Bar prep. This essentially consists of 3 hours of class, 5 days a week and 6-7 hours per day in the library 6 days per week. I know that its going to be a stressful period so I'm looking for tips on how to manage stress.

P.S. Before anyone says exercise, I probably wont be in the mood after 10 hours of studying.

If you're unwilling to exercise, the next best thing you can do is to establish a regular sleeping pattern.

there is a big difference between 10 hour work day and a 10 hour study day. The mental fatigue is for less for the former.

Dunno if this will help or not, but when my brother was studying for the bar, he took out a loan to live off of. Locked himself in a remote cabin in Wyoming and didn't enter back into civilization until it was time for the Bar exam.

And in any case to manage stress you are going to need something that takes your mind off the studying. It's winter now you could try skiing, that's always a good stress reliever. Or you could do like most lawyers and law students, get enough blow to send you to the moon a 2 litre bottle of whisky and go nuts once a week.

well, I already have funding for the study period but I cant do the cabin thing because I'm taking prep classes.

Also, I'm trying to avoid alcohol and drugs as stress relievers.

Then I would suggest doing something active in your free time. You're probably stationary most of the day and spending your freetime vegging out further will take it's toll on your health. Some sort of cardio to keep your health and immune system up because getting sick is the last thing you're going to want to happen.

This works for me:

Find some extremely complex music (anything with a lot of instruments/harmonies), preferably something slow/relaxing. Get some noise canceling/in ear headphones, lay down, close your eyes, and try to pick out each individual instrument/harmony/tune/pattern you can think of. Takes some focus, but it helps to take my mind off things. Probably for the more the musically inclined.

Heh, I'm studying for the bar right now.. you have to make sure you integrate regular exercise and other activities in... Sure, I'm studying 10 hours per day and it is freakin' miserable. Don't kid yourself, 10 hour study day is twice as hard as a 10 hours work day. Good luck man!

Try 20 minute power naps every 4 hours. The trick is to fall completely asleep in those twenty minutes. It gives your brain a chance to do a lot of the background work it needs to do.

I was really stressed out after working out of state on a job. I went running a few miles in 1/4 mile sprints. By the time I was done I didn't want to do anything but have something to eat and go to bed. No more stress!

Go outside and walk with some music, does wonders for me.

Also get plenty of sleep and eat healthy.
