Try Morrowind. It's absolutely gorgeous, and is the first game I've played that's come close to stressing my system. Now, I'm beginning to feel like my system is showing it's age, and needs an upgrade.

Athlon T-Bird 1.4 Ghz
768 MB CAS2 PC133 SDRAM
Geforce 3
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
WinXP Professional

I run Morrowind at 1024X768, full detail (excepts complex shadows which is turned off), no AA, and I've seen FPS drop to 17 <1>. I've yet to see it get to 50+ in a consistant manner. At least it's an adventure game and not a frag fest. It is gorgeous though. The graphics remind me of the whole experience demos that came with Geforce 2's. The whole GAME is like that, and in fact the water effects put them to shame.

Change "ShowFPS=0" to 1 in the Morrowind.ini

FPS will show up in the lower right-hand corner.

I get about the same FPS as you with my Geforce 2 Ultra, I thought it was showing it's age, but perhaps it's just the game. If you have got a Geforce 3 you should be doing better than me. I wonder how it runs on a Geforce 4 then we will know if it's the game or not.

Except you are running DDR and a faster CPU than mine (I'm using a 1.4 T-Bird/768 MB PC133 SDRAM). I would, however, be interested in what someone with a TI4600 is getting.

Oh, one other difference. Morrowind makes use of DirectX 8 parts, so I have additional effects turned on, such as the pixel shaded water. If I turned that off, I would likely be a little higher, but of course, that's what I bought the Geforce 3 for a year ago, so that one day a game would come along and use it's features.

i've been playing the hell out of this game my setup is

Amd 1ghz
384sdram
Geforce 3 ti200

i get with full everything on around 11fps in cities, about 18-20 in wilderness and around 30fps indoors/caves.

i hope when i build my new system with my geforce 4 ti4600 i got it'll boost it some. the water looks absolutley amazing.

On my rig (p4 2133, 512 PC2700, GF4 4400), I get around 35fps in towns, 60-100 inside buildings. Since it is not a shooter, 30fps is not bad, the game runs smoothly.

But I don't think the graphics are THAT gorgeous. MOHAA has similar eye-candy (exept for the water), and it runs way faster. Nevertheless, it's an ok game. I think Baldur's Gate (I or II) is a MUCH better RPG. BG really sucks you in the story. Looking forward to NWN.

One of my favorite thing about the Baldur's Gate series (Especially in BGII SOA) is that each of your companion has his or her own personalities (some annoying, some funny) and different backgrounds which add flavor to the game.

The PC133 and non-SSE processor is holding you back, time to upgrade!

Personally i think that Morrowind has the worst game engine ever made. Filled with bugs and slow framerates.

Its the game that sucks people... Not your machines.

WTF are you talking about? I do not have accurate polygon per frame numbers at hand, but this game is pushing more polygons than any PC game you can find in a box at the retail store . By your comments it is obvious you have A) not played the game; B) work at 3drealms and are intimidated by the beautiful title known as morrowind.

"We've been having a good time with the game thus far. Although Morrowind is definitely resource-intensive due to its big, complex environments, we've experienced relatively smooth gameplay without any technical issues whatsoever on two different test systems, each sporting 1.4GHz Athlon processors and GeForce4 Ti 4600 graphics cards." http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/news/0,10870,2863974,00.html . They also have a screenshot gallery to the right of the full article.

This game is beautiful. I have a radeon 7500, AthlonXP 1.63Ghz, 512 pc-133 Crucial@cl2, w2k

I wasn't exactly complaining, just stating that this game can stress a high-end system. I think it's gorgeous, and as jm0rris0n stated, pushed oodles of polygons. I'm happy to finally see a game that CAN stress all these $200/$300 video cards that people own. I personally am finally happy that there make be an excuse to upgrade soon :)

Stiler - I've seen you on the Morrowind forums. Your signature is unmistakably personal. Hope you are having as much fun with this one as I am :) This game is becoming justification for me to upgrade too :D
